Earthship Exploration Weekend
September 13th - 15th (Fri-Sun)
You may have heard about Earthships, seen a documentary or even visited one. They are a specific type of off-grid, passive solar house built from natural and recycled materials, most notably car tyres rammed with earth. This weekend is your chance to explore what it might be like to build one here in Ireland.
On Friday evening we will watch the documentary “Garbage Warrior” and have an informal discussion afterwards. Over the rest of the weekend, we will look at how Earthships can be adapted to the Irish climate and give some of the build techniques a try – ramming tyres with earth to build walls and using waste to create beauty.
The weekend is interactive, exploratory and hands-on. Expect to get inspired, get muddy and have a lot of fun. It is suitable for adults and older teenagers, and for all levels of ability.
The course fee includes refreshments and a hearty lunch each day. Please advise of any dietary restrictions in advance.
The course costs €120. Click Here to book (you will be taken to Cultivate.ie)

Build Your Home Without a Mortgage
October 4th - 6th (Fri-Sun)
Have you ever dreamed of building your own home? Would you like to live without the burden of having to make mortgage repayments each month for the next 25 years? This weekend could help make those desires into reality.
We will take a refreshing and honest look at finance, building design and construction. We will de-mystify them and explore their possibilities. We will learn from case studies of successes and failures.
Finance: How do mortgages work and how much do they really cost? What are the alternatives? What other possibilities open up with freedom from a mortgage?
Design: How can a home be cleverly designed so that it is inexpensive to build yet a joy to live in? This will include looking at size, layout, designing for change and materials.
Construction: What are the realities of taking on a building project? What are the skills required and where do you get them? How much money will you need?
This course will be facilitated by engineer Eileen Flanagan and architect Bruce Darrell, both of whom have built their own homes without mortgages.
The course fee includes refreshments. Lunch and accommodation are not included but are available locally. This is a Cloughjordan Eco-village Experience Event.
The course costs €100 if booked before 1st September, €140 after. Click here to book (You will be taken to the www.thevillage.ie)
